during the past week i slept over at sennett and haven’s. their house is in the berkeley hills and because their mother owns tail of the yak it is filled with amazing things. there is a giant tortoise named kitty that lives in the bottom of the garden and a cage with doves in the entry hall. they were hosting two girls from out of town who were playing at the berkeley tennis club. i hung out with them on thursday and friday, slept over on friday night, and basically lived with them for the next five days. we went to the club to see matches and ate out and walked in the hills at night and went to seven eleven and stole a poster from the window. on wednesday night we found a hidden staircase at the claremont that led to a terrace with divans and an amazing view. the weather was perfect and it felt like being in a different country for a while.

yesterday afternoon sennett and i were going to meet up with liz. i didn’t feel that great when we were biking down to college, but i didn’t really think about it. we ended up having champagne and peaches on the balcony of my apartment and listening to records on the portable suitcase-model gramophone. it was idyllic until i got the spins and went inside and lay down. i don’t want to talk about the rest of the evening or about how i passed out on my bed and woke up with people in the apartment doing whatever and empty bottles in the sink and on the floor. that was the first time something like that has happened here. i felt “denatured” for not being more responsible. i spent the entire day feeling terrible because of what happened and attempting to put the apartment back together. everything is almost back to normal now, but i wish that such a good week had ended differently. i miss sennett and haven and lauren and stephen and elise and joelle. s & h are my bros and when you live with people for five days it is almost like having a second family.
